Dreadful record: The Orkantief 'Xynthia has' seized in Western Europe at least 62 people to death and caused damage amounting to millions.
In France alone, according to civil defense are 50 people were killed and nine others were still missing. Up to 180 miles per hour with gusts quickly raced over Germany on Sunday. Seven people died. On roads, rail and air the traffic chaos broke out.

Especially bad was 'Xynthia' on the French Atlantic coast. With wind speeds of nearly 200 kilometers occurred mainly along the coast of Vendée and Charente Maritime for dyke breaches and floods. In La Rochelle, the city was flooded, the storm washed yachts in the harbor to the docks. President Nicolas Sarkozy was shocked when he saw the devastation and the dead bodies.
